I must say I am even more impressed with internet marketing because of seeing the way the the current generation come in contact with the world with the internet. My 13 year old nephew just sent me a portal they had launched to keep track of areas of interest for their classmates. They wanted to know the best way to launch marketing on the system to generate revenue. I must tell you I am so very proud of them.

This is an outstanding post! Wonderful ideas and suggestions.

Being in the market research business, I have to add that being proactive about listening to your customers is key here. If you only get feedback via web comments, you are missing out on so much more.
Take Panara Bread for example. They are doing really well right now. How do they listen to their customers? They use mystery shopping AND IVR surveys. Getting your feedback from only those customers who are your fans and/or customers who had a bad experience is not the full picture. Most people fall somewhere in between and that is where you can get some really good information about your operation, food quality and customer service levels.

Thanks for all of the great information! I believe you have to be creative and stimulating in order to put yourself on the market and show others what you can do. I have been using a website called http://www.careersuccessions.com that provides tools to make future candidates for employment stand out of the crowd. The site offers career consultants, job hunting tips, and career advancement. Good luck!

I agree that Facebook is an excellent tool for business, but I'm not sure that sharing listings is the way to use this tool.

There's a strategy to networking on Facebook successfully which includes using your personal profile as the "closer" while using a Facebook Fan Page as the top of the sales funnel. REALTORs should plan out how they will integrate these tools into their marketing without being overbearing.

Other than that I think you've got some good tips here.

The filter approach is clearly valuable. Having some level of human editing to uncover best stuff on the Web is helpful.

What's missing is an industry filter.

For instance, we created HedgeFundPulse.com to give users a view of the industry at a glance. It is amazing how much someone can take in by simply scanning the hedge fund industry headlines on one page. (Including top Twitter accounts!)

We also went one step further and incorporated a custom search engine that includes thousands of industry specific sites. The results are far more relevant that the typical search and it enables filtering out the garbage.

To read the news, an approach like that of Red Panda's contextual browser seems much more interesting.
