Great info. Real Estate Professionals need to be involved in Social Media. It's just another tool to keep in contact with their SOI. Good work, and keep on sharing.

The funny thing about this article is that its timeless. People will constantly criticize the big guy and say they're doing it wrong...but they've got to be doing something right. Right? Facebook and other social media networks will always battle privacy issues. It will be interesting to see how these issues get worked out in the next few years.

[...] This is of course a fantastic way to generate new leads and clients. I personally find facebook to be far superior than myspace or any other networking site for that matter. I would suggest joining and creating facebook groups and pages relevant to your location, making new friends, and sharing your newest listings on your profile. There’s really an enormous amount of potential for a Realtor with a proper facebook profile. I would also suggest looking into an application on facebook called ‘neighborhoods.’ It allows you to connect with people down to the development that they live in and list your own properties in the neighborhood as well. More about taking advantage of facebook.
Twitter is useless and complete nonsense. I can't believe grown adults actually use and follow this ridiculous fad. Tweeting might be good for 13 year olds but it has no place in the adult world. People need to do their own research to find things out or try being a real friend and call that 'acquaintance'.

[...] Above and Beyond: Once you’ve invited your friends, family, previous clients, and the rest of your personal network, it’s time to reach out beyond the people you regularly contact. Luckily, social media sites make it easier than ever to get back in touch with old friends, former co-workers, and anyone else in your community that might be interested in buying or selling a home. Sending a friend request on Facebook is a lot less awkward than making a phone call out of the blue. And after you’ve established a network online, some of those old acquaintances may lead to new business. [...]

Great post. I think that social media and blogging are a big part in not only attracting customers, but in attracting the customers that are right for your business in more personal, effective ways. Social media is a great way to show a bit of your businesses attitude and personality. I think that customers really want to see this. This is a great medium to really connect with customers and offer them something thats valuable and interests them enough to become a true fan.

I think twitter is big enough that sticking to only following people your intersted in instead of hoping for them to follow you back keeps it a fun and more productive tool to anyone and their business.

What good is a follower if they dont care about your niche.

Thanks for this review. I'm curious what makes Mister Wong unique to European markets? Is it just that if you are trying to use social bookmarks for brand-building? Or is there something else?

Thank you so much for this post. I usually work with small businesses & individuals for their marketing pushes and I just took on my first restaurant and now I know the sites to make sure I can manage their reputation. Mystery shoppers are a great idea too!
Thanks again!

I would love to get your take on Foursquare and Gowalla's impact on restaurant marketing.

You should checkout SinglePlatform. We are a social media and marketing platform specifically for restaurants and bars, and we are already working with thousands of restaurants across the country.

Please feel free to contact me anytime, I would love to discuss more later.

This is an outstanding post! Wonderful ideas and suggestions.

Being in the market research business, I have to add that being proactive about listening to your customers is key here. If you only get feedback via web comments, you are missing out on so much more.
Take Panara Bread for example. They are doing really well right now. How do they listen to their customers? They use mystery shopping AND IVR surveys. Getting your feedback from only those customers who are your fans and/or customers who had a bad experience is not the full picture. Most people fall somewhere in between and that is where you can get some really good information about your operation, food quality and customer service levels.
